Malware & Blacklist Status Check

VitalSite checks your domain against Google Safe Browsing and VirusTotal’s 70+ engines to see if it is flagged for malware or phishing.

☣️

If your domain lands on a malware or phishing blocklist, browsers show full-page red warnings and your traffic can collapse overnight — even if your own behavior was blameless and a hacked plugin was to blame. VitalSite checks your domain reputation against two trusted sources on every scan.

What VitalSite checks

  • Google Safe Browsing. The same blocklist that powers the red warning screens in Chrome, Android, Firefox, and Safari. We check for malware, social engineering, and unwanted-software flags. Learn more in what is Google Safe Browsing.
  • VirusTotal. Aggregated domain reputation across 70+ antivirus and security engines. We report how many vendors flag your domain as malicious or suspicious.

Why it matters

A blocklisting is one of the most visible and damaging events a website can suffer: search results show warnings, browsers block clicks, email to your domain may be rejected, and recovery takes time. Catching a listing early — ideally before Google does, by scanning regularly — lets you clean up and request review before the traffic damage compounds.

How to fix it

If you're flagged, treat it as an active compromise:

1. Find and remove the malicious code. It's usually an injected script, a redirect, or a backdoored file added after a breach.

2. Patch the entry point. Almost always an outdated plugin or an exposed sensitive file. Close it or the reinfection will return.

3. Request a review. In Google Search Console's Security Issues report, request a review once the site is clean. Delisting typically takes a day or two.

4. Harden against recurrence. Keep software patched (see CVE matching), lock down files, and monitor continuously.

Verify the fix

Re-scan your domain. Both reputation checks should report clean. Because reputation can change without warning, Pro and Agency monitoring re-checks automatically and emails you the moment a new flag appears.
